Athens, WV- Over the weekend the Concord University Women's Tennis traveled to Pennsylvania to take on new WVIAC conference opponent Seton Hill. Concord beat Seton Hill 6-3. However, the Lady Lions lost the next day to West Liberty 1-8 and then also to the University of Charleston at home on Tuesday 2-7.
On Saturday's match at Seton Hill Concord won 4 of the 6 singles matches all in straight sets. Miku Nitta defeated her opponent 6-4 and 6-0. Kelli Hutchinson won 6-2 and 7-5, and Brittany Cook dominated her matches 6-0 and 6-0. Finally, Rumi Aikawa won her matches 6-1 and 6-1. Concord would only need to win one doubles match to take the win and they won two. Cook and Burgess won their match 8-1, as Francis and Hutchinson won 8-2.
On Sunday, Concord' success would come on the doubles side as they were swept in the singles matches. The lone win came as Brittany Cook and Della Burgess defeated Kara Orsok and Megan Coney 9-7.
Then on Tuesday, the Lady Lion's wins both came in the singles column. Brittany Cook downed Mel Carpender 6-4 and 7-5. Also, Rumi Aikawa would dominate her match against Erica Lewis winning 6-0 and 6-0.
Concord (4-7) will be in Greenville, TN on Friday, October 12th at 3:00pm to take on Tusculum College.
