Brittany Cook Awarded Bob Brown Leadership Scholarship

The Concord University Athletic department would like to announce that Brittany Cook has been awarded the Bob Brown Leadership Scholarship for the 2008-2009 school year.

Brittany is a senior majoring in Education with a specialization in Science.

This yearly scholarship is given to the returning player who has gone above and beyond in his contributions to the success of the team. On court performance is important, but the behind the stage work necessary to insure this success is the key. “Brittany has been a blessing to our program over the last four years, stated Tennis coach Joe Blankenship, she is the one I count on to help in making sure I am on the same page as the ladies, practice times, uniforms choices, and class schedules.” Although she has had to endure three surgeries on her playing wrist over her career at Concord, she still continues to play the sport she truly loves.

In high school Brittany was a standout at Wyoming East high in Wyoming County. She played basketball, volleyball and tennis, but decided to focus on tennis in his college years.

This scholarship is named in honor of a former Coach and Speech instructor at Concord, Bob Brown. Dr. Brown was a nationally ranked tennis player and had given free lessons in the area for over 20 years. He was a friend to the tennis program after his retirement. Sadly, he passed away this spring and he is truly missed.
