The Concord Women’s Cross Country team finished 14th out of 35 teams in the University 'Blue' division of at the Greater Louisville Classic on Saturday morning, October 3.
Reigning WVIAC Women’s Runner of the Week Chelsea Callaway (Beaver, WV/Shady Spring HS) was Concord's top runner, battling through illness to cross the line 36th out of 298 competitors.
Another freshman, Rachel Williams (Ona, WV/Cabell Midland HS) was CU's second runner, finishing in 56th place.
Junior Carly Stout (Alderson, WV/Greenbrier East HS) was 75th. Freshman Micalyn Miller (St. Mary's, WV/St. Mary's HS) was 89th. Freshman Shawnee Carnett (Sugar Grove, VA/Marion HS) and senior Keri Hall (Pocahontas, VA/Pocahontas HS) finished less than a second apart, in 137th and 138th places, respectively.
The University of Kentucky won the Blue division, placing all five of its runners in the top 21.
Saturday’s meet at E.P. “Tom” Sawyer Park in Louisville, KY was Concord’s first event since winning the University division of the 26th Annual Greensboro Invitational last Saturday, September 26. Concord finished ahead of three Division I teams – including Marshall University – on the way to victory.
"We were way better last week," head coach Mike Cox said after the Louisville meet. "We were battling through some sickness going around the team. We didn't have Dani Pye or Tabitha Whited. But we competed well, despite it all."
The WVIAC Championships are coming up on October 24. Before that, the Lady Lions have one more regular-season event – the Concord Invitational, Saturday, October 17, at Pipestem State Park.
