In soccer, when you put the ball in the back of the net, you win games.

Do it five times in a week, and you win an award.

For her performance in two CU wins, junior F Kelsey Ballard is the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Player of the Week.

Ballard (Roanoke, VA/Hidden Valley HS) scored five goals and added an assist in Concord's 9-0 non-conference victory over Mountain State University (WV) September 29.
She followed that up by scoring the first goal in the Lady Lion's key 3-1 win at Shepherd last Saturday afternoon.

Ballard is CU's second Women's Soccer Player of the Week for 2009.  Junior F Gemma Nortcliffe (who scored two goals Saturday at Shepherd) won the award for the week of September 7.

Last week's two victories improve Concord's record to 7-4, 4-1 in the WVIAC.  Saturday's win moved CU past defending champion West Virginia Wesleyan into second place in the league.  Those two teams will meet Monday, October 12, in a 3:00 pm EDT kickoff at Anderson Field.

Before that, the Lady Lions are scheduled to host Salem International in a WVIAC match this Thursday, October 8.  Kickoff is set for 3:00 pm EDT.
