A pair of goals late in the first half helped Carson Newman to a 4-0 win over Concord in Men’s Soccer Tuesday afternoon at Anderson Field.
The visiting Eagles scored twice on throw-ins to break up a scoreless tie. Omar Cook tallied, assisted by Daniel Zitt, with 5:03 left in the first half. Zitt would score the second goal on a header, off an assist from Robert Hill, with just :59 remaining before halftime.
The score held at 2-0 until Matthew Finlay scored with 17:22 left in regulation, assisted by Cooke. Hill closed out the scoring on a penalty kick just 30 seconds later.
Tuesday was Concord’s fourth consecutive loss by shutout. The Mountain Lions’ record is now 4-8, 1-5 in the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Carson Newman now stands at 6-3-1.
The Eagles outshot Concord 29-5, 7-3 in shots on goal, and held an 8-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Concord returns to WVIAC play next Saturday, October 10, with a visit to Alderson-Broaddus. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:00 pm EDT in Philippi, WV.
