Women's Soccer Dominates Salem International
Bookmark and Share

With an important match against defending WVIAC champion West Virginia Wesleyan looming on Monday, the Concord Women’s Soccer team had a few basic items on their checklist going into Thursday’s conference match against last-place Salem International:

  • Give everyone some playing time
  • Stay healthy
  • Take care of the ball
  • Take care of business.

Check, check, check and check.

The Lady Lions overwhelmed the understaffed Tigers, 14-0, on a lovely autumn afternoon at Anderson Field.

Twenty-one players saw the pitch and all emerged healthy.

Concord controlled the ball almost at will and kept it on the Salem half of the pitch for nearly literally the entire 90 minutes.

CU didn’t allow the Lady Tigers to attempt a single shot.

Fourteen different Concord players attempted shots and eight different players scored goals.

The struggling Salem squad has been outscored 52-0 in the five matches for which it’s taken the field this season.

Concord improved its record to 8-4, 5-1 in the WVIAC, solidifying its hold on second place and moving it five points clear of third-place Wesleyan on the eve of the Lady Bobcats’ visit – the first meeting between the two teams since last year’s WVIAC Championship match November 9th in Buckhannon, WV.

That match was a scoreless draw through regulation and two overtimes; the Lady Bobcats won in a shootout, 4-3, to claim the league title and an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Monday’s match kicks off at 3:00 pm EDT at Anderson Field.
