Men's Golf Looks Ahead

Concord Seeks Breakthrough In 2010

Following a Fall season where Concord Men's Golf team finished third, second and second in the three WVIAC tournaments on the schedule, the Mountain Lions will take some strong credentials into the 2010 Spring season.

CU was ranked 3rd in the Atlantic Region -- behind Indiana of Pennsylvania and Ohio Valley – while featuring a trio of the region's top players.

Ryan Terdik finished the fall ranked #2 in the region. The junior won Medalist honors at the WVIAC Championship and is listed at #2 in the WVIAC in Scoring Average (73.79 through 14 rounds). In six tournaments, the junior recorded one top-five result and finished in the top ten on two other occasions. He's also a leading contender for WVIAC Player of the Year.

Emmanuel Charmat 'sized'
Emmanuel Charmat notched two top-five and three top-20 results this season on the way to securing the #6 regional ranking. The junior averaged 74.50 through 14 rounds, good for 3rd in the WVIAC.

“I'm excited for Ryan and Emmanuel. They played very solid golf this fall, and the hard work that they put in shows in their rankings,” said Concord coach Darcy Donaldson. “They were both on the NCAA Atlantic All-Region team last year and I'm not surprised that they are atop the region again.”

Kyle Long was Medalist at the WVIAC Southern Regional tournament and ended the Fall campaign ranked #21 in the Atlantic Region. His 76.33 scoring average through 12 rounds was the 11th-best in the WVIAC. The junior recorded one top-five, one top-ten and two top-20 finishes.

“Overall, I'm very pleased with this fall. The guys played very well,” Donaldson said. “We had a few bad rounds but we learned from them. I know the guys are disappointed that we had no wins, but we're still a strong team and very tough to play.
“Some tournaments didn't go our way, but that will set us up to excel in the bigger events.  I had seven different players in the line-up this fall and our scoring average shows how strong and deep the team is.”

With winter approaching, the Mountain Lions will try to stay sharp and prepare for 2010.

“During the off-season the guys will play when they can,” Donaldson said. “They'll be some intra-squad match-play to keep their competitive edge. We'll have off-season training in the gym and indoor practices will start mid February.
“I'm very excited for the spring season – we'll make a run for the Regional Championship and another appearance at Nationals in May.”

Concord's Spring season begins March 8-9 at the Barton College Intercollegiate tournament in Wilson, NC.
