Brian Kennedy’s list of accomplishments during the 2009 football season is a long one.
And there’s still room for more.
The sophomore running back has earned a spot on the Daktronics Inc. All-Super Region 1 Team, making him eligible to be named an All-American.
Kennedy’s emergence as a triple threat was instrumental in Concord’s rise to a surprising 6-5 record in 2009.
His 1505 rushing yards topped the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference; he averaged 136.8 yards per game, 6.9 yards per carry, and scored 17 touchdowns.
Kennedy also caught 27 passes for 228 yards and three more touchdowns, and averaged 24.4 yards on 14 kickoff returns.
All told, Kennedy totaled 2075 all-purpose yards, or 188.6 yards per game.
Kennedy rushed for better than 100 yards in seven of Concord’s 11 games.
He set a school record – and thrilled a large Homecoming crowd – by rushing for 296 yards in the Mountain Lions’ 52-34 victory over Seton Hill October 17. Kennedy averaged a remarkable 18.5 yards per carry against the Griffins.
Kennedy went over 200 rushing yards in two other games. At West Liberty on November 7, he rushed 27 times for 234 yards and three touchdowns; at Glenville State on October 10, he finished with 220 yards and two touchdowns on 41 carries.
His most versatile performance came against Shepherd on October 3. Kennedy rushed for 91 yards and three TDs, caught nine passes for 96 yards and another touchdown and returned three kickoffs for 64 yards. The 251 all-purpose yards earned Kennedy the WVIAC Offensive Player of the Week award, one of the three he won this season. The others came October 17 and November 7.
The Daktronics Inc. All-Region and All-American teams are voted on by sports information directors in all four Super Regions.
The All-American team will be announced on Tuesday, December 8.
