Mountain Lions Split 1st Day in Divisional Showdown

Athens, WV-A late surge by the Yellow Jackets lifted them to the 4-2 win over Concord in game 1 of the day. However, game 2 was all Concord as they came up big in the bottom of the 5th scoring 7 runs and winning 11-4.

In game 1 State took the lead in the top of 7th with a 2 run inning, Concord had a late surge with 2 outs in bottom of the 7th when Brooks Cullen and Donovan Huffer both had singles, unfortunately the Mountain Lions couldn’t complete the comeback losing 4-2.

Keith Morrisroe had solid game with 3 hits on 4 at bats while Devon Smith picked up the Mountain Lions lone RBI on a homerun in the bottom of the 4th.

After pitching a complete game Donovan Huffer was charged with the loss after a solid performance with 8 strikeouts. Ryne Holstine received the win for State with Jacob Kight getting the save.

Concord had a strong showing  with 9 hits for 2 runs with 2 errors. The Yellow Jackets picked up 4 runs on 8 hits with 1 error.

In game 2 Concord trailed entering the bottom of the 5th before the offense exploded scoring 7 runs in the inning.  James Stehlin hit a 2 run single to take the lead,  Pino Merolillo also picked up 2 RBIs, Tyler Webb, Donovan Huffer and Greyson Schram added 1 RBI in the inning.

Concord was led by Donovan Huffer and Greyson Schram both went  3 for 4 in game 2 for 2 RBI’s a piece.  Pino Merolillo had a solid showing going 2 for  with 2 RBIs’.

Concord will continue divisional play against the Yellow Jackets tomorrow for senior day beginning at 1:00 pm here in Athens.
