Athens, WV-Concord cut States’ lead to 1 after a solo shot homerun by Keith Morrisroe in the bottom of the 7th but couldn’t completely close the gap, losing 4-3 in game 1. The Yellow Jackets jumped out to a 4 run lead in game 2 and were able to hold off Concord, 4-2.
In game 1 State was able to take advantage of 3 Concord errors in the 4th scoring 3 runs and took the final lead change of the game.
Trey Smith was charged with the loss after pitching the entire game, only giving up 1 earned run on 4 hits and striking out 9. Michael Barron gets the win giving up 2 earned runs while Jacob Kight gets his 2nd save of the weekend.
Keith Morrisroe had a solid showing for the Mountain Lions with 2 hits on 3 at bats including a homerun in the bottom of the 7th. Donovan Huffer also had a strong showing going 3 for 4 with 1 RBI.
In game 2 of the day Concord was led by Donovan Huffer who went 2 for 3.
Chastin Akers pitched a complete game but was charged with the loss giving up 4 runs with 4 strikeouts. State’s Eric Workmen got the win giving up 2 runs on 6 hits while Josh Kuykendell received the save.
At the end of the series West Virginia State stays in 1st place in the division at 8-1 with their only loss coming from the Mountain Lions. Concord holds at 2nd at in divisional play at 5-5. Concord will be returning home to face the Wildcats of West Virginia Wesleyan on April 16th starting at 1:00 pm.
