CHARLESTON — The Concord University men’s tennis team reached the
semifinals of the state conference tournament before losing to West
Liberty in a marathon battle on Friday evening.
The Hilltoppers defeated Concord, seeded second in the tournament, by a
5-4 decision. The Mountain Lions got singles wins from Leonardo Araujo,
Andrew Iruthayarajah and Armando Estevez, and a doubles win by Joao
Mischiatti and Matt Lester.
West Liberty’s Alex Conway defeated Filip Crvenkovic in a third-set
tie-breaker for the winning point.
Defending champion West Virginia Wesleyan beat West Liberty 5-1 in
Saturday’s title match.
Araujo and Mischiatti made the all-conference team. Concord is fifth in
the latest regional rankings and still has a chance for an NCAA
postseason berth.
