Women's Cross Country Faces Strong Field

Facing a field comprised entirely of Division I programs, a young Concord Women’s Cross Country team finished 7th in the Virginia Tech Invitational on Friday, September 18, in Blacksburg, VA.

 

Freshman Chelsea Callaway (Beaver, WV/Shady Spring HS) posted the Lady Lions’ top result, finishing 41st out of 93 competitors.  Callway covered the 4.6K course in 18:26.9.

Another freshman, Rachel Williams (Ona, WV/Cabell Midland HS) was Concord’s next-quickest, finishing 46th in 18:37.8. 

Junior Carly Stout’s (Alderson, WV/Greenbrier East HS) time of 18:51.5 was good for 54th place.  Junior Danielle Pye (Lancaster, England/Hornby HS) was 63rd, with a time of 19:20.3.  Freshman Micalyn Miller (St. Mary’s, WV/St. Mary’s HS) was four spots further back at 20:14.8.  Senior Keri Hill (Pocahontas, VA/Pocahontas HS) rounded out Concord’s top five with a time of 20:54.7. 

 

The top five scores from each squad determined the team standings.  Florida State, currently ranked #3 in NCAA Division I by the U.S. Track & Cross Country Coaches Association, cruised to the event championship.  Wake Forest was second, with host Virginia Tech third.

 

The Concord women are next scheduled to compete in the Hagon Stone Classic in Greensboro, NC, on Saturday, September 26.
