The Concord Men’s Cross Country team is getting used to running against Division I opponents.
Hopefully, the Mountain Lions can make a habit of beating them.
Concord finished ahead of three D1 schools on the way to winding up fourth overall in the University division of the 26th Annual Greensboro Invitational Saturday afternoon in Greensboro, NC.
In earlier competitions this season, Concord had gone against programs like Virginia Tech, Florida State and Wake Forest.
On Saturday, the Mountain Lions’ 48 team points trailed only Division I Virginia Commonwealth (28 points), Mars Hill (31) and Division I Marshall University (37) in the 15-team field.
Freshman Craig Pritt (Terra Alta, WV/Preston, HS) was Concord’s quickest competitor, covering the eight kilometer distance in 26:20.2 to finish in 10th place.
Freshman Szymon Rola (Poland/Fork Union Military Academy) was 18th, in 26:58.2.
Freshman Nathan Rees (Ravenswood, WV/Ravenswood HS) finished 28th in 27:28.2. Right behind him was sophomore Robbie Peters (Greenbrier West HS) in 27:28.4. Junior John Meadows (McArthur, WV/Independence HS) completed Concord’s top five by coming in at 35th out of 27:38.9.
Concord, ranked 9th in the USTCCCA’s latest NCAA Division II Atlantic Region poll, competes next in the Paul Short Invitational, hosted by Lehigh University, Friday, October 2 in Bethlehem, PA.
