Women's Cross Country Wins Greensboro Invitational
Bookmark and Share

Cross Country Coach Mike Cox has said, many times, that the main goal for the 2009 Women’s Team is to just get better in every meet they run.

The Lady Lions fulfilled that goal in the 26th Annual Greensboro Invitational in Greensboro, NC.

Concord won the University division title outright, finishing ahead of four Division I teams in the process.

The results of each team’s top five runners are applied to the team scores, and the lower the score, the better.

Concord ended with 28 points, better than three Division I teams -- Marshall University (34), North Carolina A&T (38) and North Carolina Central (75).

The next-highest Division II team was Pfeifer University (NC), which finished 5th in the University division with 83 points.

Freshman Chelsea Callaway (Beaver, WV/Shady Spring HS) posted the Lady Lions’ top result, covering the 5K course in 19:24.0 to finish 3rd.

Junior Carly Stout (Alderson, WV/Greenbrier East HS) was 9th in 19:37.8.  Freshman Rachel Williams (Ona, WV/Cabell Midland HS) came in 10th, at 19:38.7.

Junior Danielle Pye (Lancaster, England/Hornby HS) was fourth on the CU chart, finishing 14th in 19:54.4.  After her came freshman Micalyn Miller (St. Mary’s WV/St. Mary’s WV) at 20:43.3.

Concord’s next event will be the Paul Short Invitational, hosted by Lehigh University, next Friday, October 2, in Bethlehem, PA.
