Men's Soccer Falls In Home & Conference Opener
Bookmark and Share

A flurry of shots to open the second half had Concord’s offense on the doorstep, but Davis & Elkins opened a lead too large to overcome as the Mountain Lions fell to the Senators, 3-1, in CU’s home and conference opener at Anderson Field on September 5th.

D&E scored first, on Bediako Swann’s goal less than eight minutes after kickoff, and took a 1-0 lead into halftime.

Concord opened the second half on the attack and fired four shots in a span of less than eight minutes.  But none found the back of the net, and the Senators replied with a Justin Logan goal 7:38 into the half to put D&E up 2-0.

D&E stretched the advantage to 3-0 on Swann’s second goal, with 17:18 remaining.

Concord would get on the board with Scotty Funston’s goal with 8:56 goal left.  The Mountain Lions kept the pressure on from there, but couldn’t pierce the Senator’s defense and D&E got out of Athens with an important WVIAC road victory.

The defeat leaves Concord’s record at 1-3, 0-1 in the conference.

Concord will host Mountain State University in a non-conference match Thursday, September 10.  Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 pm at Anderson Field.
