LADY LIONS DROP 3rd STRAIGHT

Turnovers Doom Concord at West Virginia State

Turnovers can be very tasty.

Apple, blueberry, cherry or raspberry -- hot and fresh out of the oven, turnovers can be delicious.

However, when it comes to basketball, turnovers leave nothing but a bad taste.

The Concord Women's Basketball committed 22 turnovers in a 74-62 loss at West Virginia State Monday night.  The Lady Lions ended their three-game road trip against WVIAC contenders at 0-3, committing 72 turnovers in the process.

Making Monday's game more frustrating was that Concord shot .586 in the second half (17-29) and .462 for the game.  Meanwhile, CU's defense -- ranked 14th in the nation in opponents' field goal percentage -- limited the Yellow Jackets to .389 (24-52).

WVSU flexed its defense in the first half, holding Concord to just seven field goals on the way to a 30-23 lead at the break.
Concord scored the first six points of the second half to pull within 30-29 and would remain as close as 50-46 with 8:46 left.
But, fueled by a pair on CU turnovers, the Yellow Jackets scored eight unanswered points in 97 seconds to lead 58-46.  The Lady Lions would get no closer than nine points after that.

Camisha Alexander topped Concord with 16 points, giving her 37 points in the last two games.  Sierra Brown recorded another double-double with 13 points and 13 rebounds.  Senior Sierra Brown finished with 14 points and nine rebounds.  Kristin Kidd added 10 points.

Marshall transfer Alixandria Barnette led WVSU with 22 points.

The loss dropped Concord to 10-6, 7-4 in the WVIAC.  West Virginia, now winners of three straight, improved to 10-7, 6-6.
