WISH FULFILLMENT

Lady Lions Take Control Early in Rout of Bluefield State

It can't be a bad thing when you get what you hope for.

The Concord Women's Basketball team wished to have an easy time in their regular season finale against Bluefield State Saturday afternoon, and that was precisely what they got.

The Lady Lions took command with a 22-0 run midway through the first half, and cruised to a 77-38 win at the Carter Center.

CU ends the regular season at 15-12, 12-10 in the WVIAC. The Lady Lions finish 10th in the league and will visit #7 Shepherd in the first round of the conference tournament Monday night.

The Lady Rams might be motivated to meet Concord again, after the Lady Lions rallied from 10 points down with less than five minutes to play in to take a 94-93 victory just last Wednesday in Shepherdstown [www.wviac.org/custompages/wbball/10wbkbHTML/su224.htm].

Every Lady Lion player scored in Saturday's blowout, four in double figures.
Freshman Emily Blevins and sophomore Holly Bibb each totaled 13 points – Blevins was 6-10 from the field, Bibb 3-6 from three-point range.
Jolysa Brown made just one field goal, but was a perfect 8-8 from the free throw line and ended the day with 10 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
Kristin Kidd added 11 points and six rebounds.

Laken Coburn led Bluefield State with 12 points.

Concord took good care of the ball against the Lady Blues, with 20 assists offset by just nine turnovers.

Before Saturday's game, the Lady Lions honored their only senior, Sierra Brown, who played in just  18 games in 2009-10.  Brown was on track for an All-Conference spot, averaging 13 points and seven rebounds, before illness cut short her season.
