SPRING BREAK TRIP ENDS EARLY

Rain Washes Out CU's Last Game In Savannah

Considering all the snow that the Concord Baseball team has had to work through and around this year, a little spring rain might actually feel refresing.

Or maybe not.

Rain can get in the way of a game just as effectively as snow, and the liquid -- not frozen -- precipitation forced the postponement of the Mountain Lions' matchup against West Liberty on Thursday, March 11th in Savannah, GA.

Concord was to have met the Hilltoppers for the second time in three days, as part of the Savannah Invitational.  The Mountain Lions defeated the Hilltoppers, 5-1, on Tuesday, March 9th, behind a complete-game five-hitter from junior lefthander Chastin Akers.

Today's game may not be lost for good, however.  Both teams are looking into a potential make-up date later this season.

After opening the season and the spring break trip with a loss to the host team -- Armstrong Atlantic State -- on March 7th, the Mountain Lions concluded their visit to Savannah with three straight wins.

"For the first time being on grass and dirt, I'm pleased with how we played," said CU head coach Kevin Garrett.  "We still have some wrinkles to iron out, but that's to be expected early in the season.  The competition in Savannah is top-notch, and to end the week 3-1 says a lot about this team."

Concord was scheduled to open its WVIAC schedule with a home series against Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday and Saturday, March 13th and 14th.  But that series was cancelled to due wet grounds at Anderson Field.

The Mountain Lions are set to visit West Virginia Wesleyan for a three-game series on Tuesday and Wednesday, March 16th and 17th, in Buckhannon, WV.

Weather permitting, of course.
