CU TEAMS WIN 8 EVENTS IN CHILLY CONCORD INVITATIONAL

The calendar said it was Spring.
 
The weather said it was Winter.
 
The results said it was a good day for Concord’s Track & Field teams.
 
On a cloudy, snowy evening that looked and felt more like January than March, the Mountain Lions claimed eight championships and 11 runner-up spots at their own Concord Invitational on Friday, March 26th, at Callaghan Stadium.

The meet also included athletes from WVIAC schools Charleston, Glenville State and West Virginia Wesleyan, and nearby NAIA school Mountain State University.
 
 
WOMEN’S HIGHLIGHTS
 
The Mountain Lions’ top overall showing of the day came in the 3000 meters. Tabitha Whited won the event, with teammates Moe Isihara, Micalyn Miller and Diane Rumrill in order behind her.
 
Brittany Pratt won the women’s long jump and was runner-up in the pole vault.
 
Danielle Pye won the 1500 meters, with Shawnee Carnett in second. Carnett – a four-time WVIAC Athlete of the Week in 2010, was also runner-up n the 200 meters.
 
Brittany Robbins was first in the 100 meter dash.
 
Lydia Powell claimed the title in the 400 meters.
 
Courtney Coon was runner-up in the 5000 meters.
 
 
MEN’S HIGHLIGHTS
 
Dennis Cole was first to the tape in the 400 meters (by just .04 seconds) and was runner-up in the 200 meters.
 
Robby Peters won the 3000 meters, with Craig Pratt the runner-up.
 
Jason Brackett was first in the 400 meter hurdles, ahead of John Gadomski. Gadomski was also runner-up in the 110 meter hurdles.
 
Concord’s other runner-up performances came from Nathan Rees in the 800 meters, Sterling Snyder in the 1500 and Bobby Thompson in the discus.

Both Concord teams will compete next in the Duke Invitational in Durham, NC, on Friday and Saturday, April 2nd and 3rd.
