Spring Game #1 (1024 x 768)

"We're going to keep it kind of casual" is how Concord Football head coach Mike Kellar described the plans for the Mountain Lions' annual Spring Game.

Indeed, the day included a morning round of golf for Kellar and his coaching staff at Pipestem State Park, and a pre-game barbecue for Concord's incoming recruiting class, their families, and friends of the CU program.

The atmosphere for Saturday afternoon's game at Callaghan Stadium was a little relaxed, befitting a contest played in April.

But once the players took the field it was all business.

In an intense, efficient, physical and crisply-played contest, the White team beat the Maroon, 21-7, as the Mountain Lions closed out their 2010 Spring schedule.

No officials statistics were kept, but longtime Concord beat writer Tom Bone of the Bluefield Daily Telegraph unofficially credited RB Brian Kennedy, playing for the White team, for 171 yards rushing on 14 carries, including two touchdowns.  WR Thomas Mayo caught seven passes for 140 yards and two touchdowns.  (Wide receivers took turns playing for both teams.)
