TRACK & FIELD 4th AT WVIAC CHAMPIONSHIPS

CARNETT, COX WIN YEAR-END AWARDS; FOUR SCHOOL RECORDS SET

Concord's Track and Field teams each finished fourth at the 2010 WVIAC Championships, held Friday and Saturday April 30th and May 1st in Wheeling, WV.

The Women's team won three individual events, two by Brittany Pratt.

Shawnee Carnett (right) won Rookie Athlete of the Year honors, and Mike Cox earned a share of the Coach of the Year award.

The Lady Lions set four school records -- Pratt in the 100 and the 200, Carnett in the 400 and Danielle Pye in the 1500.  A link to the complete results is below.
 
 

WOMEN

Pratt's win in the 200 was part of a strong Concord showing. Carnett tied for 4th, with Ashley White of Wheeling Jesuit, at 26.05 seconds, while Erin Barnett's sixth-place run added to CU's scoring.

Pratt also won the long jump, to go with 5th-place in the pole vault, heptathlon (during which she was first in the 200 meters and the long jump) and 100 meters (Barnett was 6th). Pratt ran the first leg of CU's 4x100 relay team (with Lydia Powell, Barnett and Carnett) that finished third. 

Carnett was Concord's other event winner. She claimed the 400 meters with a winning margin of 1.65 seconds (Pratt was 4th), and ran the anchor leg of CU's 4x400 team (with Lydia Powell, Lindsey DeVaughn and Barnett) that finished second.

Carli Stout was second in the steeplechase and third in the 5000 meters, with Chelsea Callaway 5th in the latter event. Callaway also finished third in the 10,000. 

Pye came in 4th in the 800 meters and 5th in the 1500; DeVaughn was 6th in the 800.

MEN

Lance McDaniel and Nathan Rees each gave Concord its highest individual result by finishing second – McDaniel in the steeplechase and Rees in the 800 meters. Rees also finished 5th in the steeplechase, with Brad Dugan in at 3rd.

McDaniel would add a 4th-place showing in the 800.

R.J. Anderson was another highlight performer, finishing 3rd in the 100 meters (.01 out of second place) and 5th in the 200.

John Gadomski and Sterling Snyder each gave Concord a 3rd place finish, Gadomski in the 110-meter hurdles and Snyder in the 10,000 meters.

Bobby Thompson and Jason Brackett were 4th, respectively, in the shot put and the 400-meter hurdles.

Brackett was also part of CU's 4x100 relay team (with Dennis Cole, Orlando Bryant and Anderson) and the 4x400 team (with Craig Pritt, Szymon Rola and Cole), each of which finished 5th.

Robby Peters was 5th and Pritt 6th in the 1500, Brian Caulkins 5th in the javelin and Kareem Royal 6th in the high jump.

West Virginia Wesleyan won both team titles. The Bobcat Men swept the conference's individual awards.
