The Concord Men's Golf team struggled in the first round of the NCAA Division II National Championships Tuesday, but the Mountain Lions have three rounds left to make a move toward the top.
Concord posted a team score of 39 over par at the par-72, 7143-yard Sagamore Golf Club in Noblesville, IN, leaving the Mountain Lions near the bottom of the 20-team field.
The Mountain Lions started Tuesday's first round on the back nine at 7:30 am EDT and quickly ran into trouble. Each player recorded at least one bogey in the first two holes.
Kyle Long produced Concord's best round, a +2 74. He started and ended his round with a birdie; in between he notched another birdie, 12 pars, two bogeys and one triple bogey.

Emmanuel Charmat and Johan Isberg each finished Tuesday at +12 84.

Isberg played his first nine at +4, but set himself back with a quadruple bogey on #2.

Andrew Mehler stumbled out of the gate, with a triple bogey and three double bogies over his first five holes. He posted four straight pars bracketing the turn, but scuffled again by going +6 over a five-hole stretch of his back nine.
