Little more than a month after being named Concord’s new Baseball head coach, Andrew Wright has named his top assistant coach.

Wright has announced that Levi Maxwell – a former pitcher for West Virginia University who also played professionally – will join the CU staff for the 2010-2011 season.

A Shinnston, WV native, Maxwell (left) was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 18th round of the 2007 June free agent draft and spent three years in the Sox’ farm system.

During Maxwell’s professional career, he was listed as the prospect with the best control in the White Sox organization in 2008, and threw a no-hitter while pitching for the Class A Winston-Salem Dash.

Maxwell will serve as the Mountain Lion’s pitching coach and recruiting coordinator, along with other administrative duties within the baseball program.

Wright was an assistant coach at WVU during Maxwell’s collegiate career.

“I’m excited to have Levi join our program,” said Wright. “His collegiate and professional experience, along with his ability to teach pitching, will make for an excellent addition to our staff. Levi believes in what we're trying to accomplish here at Concord and he'll be a big part of moving this program forward.”

Maxwell currently serves as the head pitching instructor at Pro Performance in Morgantown, WV.

Wright took over the Concord program last May 14th. He succeeds Kevin Garrett, who stepped down as Baseball coach after 15 successful seasons to concentrate on his role as CU’s Director of Athletics.
