Going into the 2009 season, Concord wide receiver Thomas Mayo was just another player looking to lift up the Mountain Lions after a winless campaign the year before.
Going into the 2010 season, Mayo has become the focus of national attention.
The website d2football.com has named Mayo, a junior from Reston, VA, as a pre-season All-American. It's the third such honor for Mayo, who was earlier named a pre-season All-American by Lindy's magazine and Consensus Draft Services.
Mayo is one of six players from the West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selected to d2football.com's 1st or 2nd Pre-Season All-America teams.

Mayo hopes to follow up a 2009 season in which he set a CU record with 1368 Total Receiving Yards -- the fifth-best season in WVIAC history -- and led the nation with 124.4 Receiving Yards Per Game. It was the fifth-best season in West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference history.
Mayo caught 72 passes, 11 for touchdowns, and averaged 19.0 yards per catch. He eclipsed 100 yards receiving in seven of CU’s 11 games. In the process, he earned All-WVIAC First Team honors, a spot on the d2football.com All-American 2nd Team and became Concord’s first-ever Harlan Hill Award regional finalist.
Concord opens its 2010 season on Thursday, August 26, against Southern Virginia University. Kickoff is at 6:00 pm at Callaghan Stadium.
