LADY LIONS FADE IN MERCER COUNTY MATCHUP

BLUEFIELD STATE RALLIES FOR FIVE-SET WIN

The Concord Volleyball team had arch-rival Bluefield State down, but couldn't deliver the knockout punch.

The Lady Lions were dominant early in their first meeting with their intra-county rivals, cruising to a double-digit win in the first set.

Concord was ahead two sets to one, and leading 20-16 in the fourth set, when the Lady Blues rallied to claim a stunning 15-25, 26-24, 21-25, 26-24, 15-8 victory Monday, September 13, at Ned Shott Gymnasium in Bluefield, WV.

The loss with the fifth in a row for Concord, which fell to 2-8.

The Lady Lions played much of the match without OH Emily Wilson, who was sidelined with an injury.

According to Bluefield State, Monday was the first time the Lady Blues defeated Concord in volleyball.

CU will hold its 2010 home opener Friday night, September 17, against Fairmont State.  Match time is at 7:00 pm at the Carter Center.  Admission is free.
