Concord Downs West Virginia Wesleyan, 2-0

ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University men's soccer team was victorious, 2-0, over West Virginia Wesleyan, in the home opener—a Mountain East Conference game—at Callaghan Stadium Wednesday afternoon.

Concord (2-1-1, 1-1 MEC) completely commanded the game as it held WVWC (0-2-2, 1-1 MEC) without a shot for over 60 minutes while finding the back of the net once in each half.

The Mountain Lions had control of the ball for the majority of the match and it started right off the opening kick.

Despite the lopsided possession in the first half (70 percent to 30), CU didn't generate a ton of chances early. The Mountain Lions finally broke through in the 27th minute as senior forward Dominique Malhomme scored his first goal of the season with a nice overhead flick that found the top corner to open the scoring. Freshman midfielder Josiah Ochoa earned the assist for his first collegiate points.

It took 30 minutes into the second half for Concord to add to the lead as another ball around the six-yard box was unable to be cleared the Bobcats. Senior forward Mcallan Augustin received a bouncing ball in the box and ripped a side volley into the back of the net for his first goal of the season. Sophomore midfielder Koya Nakamura and junior defender Ben Musengo picked up assists on the goal.

CU had some extra chances down the stretch but was unable to tack anything else onto the score sheet.

The Mountain Lion defense was very stingy, only allowing four shots in the contest, none of which were put onto goal.

Malhomme and junior forward Lucas Costa each had three shots in the contest as Concord finished with 14 attempts and four on target.

Junior goalkeeper Iori Tanaka did not have to make a save to record his third shutout of the season.

Concord stays at home on Sunday against Shawnee State at 4:00 p.m. inside Callaghan Stadium.
