ATHENS, W.Va. – The Concord University men's tennis team defeated UVa.-Wise 5-3 Friday night in a Mountain East Conference match at the CU Tennis Courts.

Concord improves to 2-5 on the season and 2-1 in the conference.

The Mountain Lions started the match by winning just one doubles matches. Junior
Javier Lietor and sophomore
Alec Lusk were victorious in number three doubles, 8-1.

After the Cavaliers won two doubles matches, CU allowed just one more victory to UVa.-Wise for the remaining singles matches.

Freshman
Adam Katona downed Viktor Tunnikov, 6-1, 6-1 in number two singles. Freshman
Henrique Sada outlasted Chris Armistead in number three singles, 6-4, 7-5. Fellow freshman
Luis Soares came up with a win in number four singles, 6-2, 6-3.

Lietor's win in number five singles, 8-2, clinched the win for the Mountain Lions.

Sophomore
Adam Tolliver was winning in number six singles, 6-2, when the match was stopped due to rain and slick court conditions.

CU is scheduled to play at home against West Virginia State Sunday.Â
